I was once the Product Development Manager at Orion Telescopes in Santa Cruz, CA., and 3 decades ago did all the field testing and work in introducing the "UltraBlock" visual narrowband nebular filter--catalogue article, instruction sheet, and so forth; so I have had decades of experience with eyepiece filters for improving deep sky visual contrast. The CLS type is broader band than the narrow nebula filter, but in my case (after >50 years as a visual amateur observer) I have verified that mine, bought from Amazon in 2" size, is actually superior to a costly Lumicon Deep Sky filter, and an Orion SkyGlow type. First: stars are not cut out as aggressively, and they look sharper and more natural. Second: contrast boost was BETTER, in fact recently enabling me to see the very faint globular cluster NGC5466, which was INVISIBLE without a filter, and either of the Lumicon and Orion broadband filters had no actual discernible benefit. But my Svbony CLS filter DID make this faint globular visible in my 11" SCT (in town, with some light pollution) detectable and identifiable, aiding me in making a drawing and writing up a report for my astro website. I was so pleased that I am ordering the 1.25" size, too. This is a relatively "gentle" filter and is not intended for certain narrow-wavelength radiating nebulae (some planetaries, for instance); it does not make the sky background as dark--and you probably could NOT see the Horsehead with it, as that requires a VERY narrow h-beta filter.

Type City Light Suppression Filter (CLS Filter)

1. The SVBONY City Light Suppression broadband filter is designed to improve the visibility of various Deepsky objects. By selectively reducing the transmission of wavelengths of light pollutants, specifically those produced by artificial lightings including mercury vapor lamps, both high & low pressure sodium vapor lights and the unwanted natural light caused by neutral oxygen emission in our atmosphere (i.e. skyglow)

2. Together with the highly transparent in main nebula emission lines at OIII(496nm and 500nm), H-beta (486nm), NII(654nm and 658nm), H-alpha(656nm) as well as SII(672nm), the Svbony CLS filter is suitable for enhancing the contrast and details for both visual and photographic purpose at sub-rural area

3. Light pollution filter do not eliminate the effects of light pollution or increase the object's brightness. In many cases, they increase the contrast between nebula and night sky, not brightening the nebula
