It’s raining right now, which is typical. But it gives me a second to actually think about how far my setup has come.
I started out with this cheap telescope I’d picked up, and honestly, for a while, I thought I’d wasted my money. I’d go outside, excited to see something, but the eyepieces that came with the scope were garbage. They felt like plastic, and looking through them was like trying to see through a pinhole. I’d spend an hour squinting, my eye watering, trying to find anything other than a blurry white dot. It was frustrating. You want to see the universe, but your gear is making you feel like you’re just staring at a smudge on a window. I eventually decided to try one more thing before giving up and bought some SVBONY goldline eyepieces. I’d heard they were a solid upgrade for the price, but I wasn't expecting a miracle. Then came a clear night. It was just me out there—no one else was around, and the neighborhood was quiet. I pointed the scope at this bright, yellowish light that I hoped was Saturn. I swapped out the "toy" lens for the Goldline, tightened the screws, and looked in.
It didn't look like a smudge anymore.
I turned the focus knob, just a tiny bit, and suddenly the blur sharpened up. There it was. Saturn. It wasn’t a grainy photo or a dot; I could actually see the rings. They were sitting there, perfectly clear, like a little golden jewel in the middle of all that black space.
I didn't have anyone to show or anyone to brag to. I just stood there in the dark by myself, staring at it. It was the first time I felt like I was actually "doing" astronomy. That one piece of glass changed everything—suddenly, the telescope actually worked, and the planet I’d read about my whole life was right there in front of me. I probably stayed out there way longer than I should have, just watching it drift across the view. It wasn't a fancy observatory or a professional setup, but for a minute, it didn't matter. I’d finally found it. Since that moment i have become completely hooked. Im now an aspiring astrophotographer chasing Horizons and dark sky's!
