Stellar Shots & Trusted Gear: My SVBONY Journey from Guide Scope to Nebula Photography
My Journey with SVBONY
Making of feature
My first SVBONY product was the SV106 50mm Guide Scope, which I purchased 3 years ago to pair with my Explore Scientific ED102 Refractor. I was immediately impressed by its quality, and it has remained a reliable part of my setup ever since—proving that SVBONY delivers on performance without compromising value.
The first time I imaged with my SV503 80ED, I captured the Moon—and in that moment, I knew I made the right decision. Since then, I use this telescope exclusively from October to early March to photograph larger nebulae, which I share on my X account and with friends on Facebook. It never lets me down; of my almost 500 posts on X, well over 400 feature shots involving a SVBONY product.
I primarily shoot from the rear deck of my home, where I have a great view of the northern, eastern, and southern sky. My current setup includes the SVBONY SV503 80ED paired with a SV193 .8 Reducer, mounted on a Celestron AVX EQ mount. I use the ZWO ASI533mc Pro camera, with everything feeding into the ZWO ASIAIR Pro. I usually capture multiple 3-minute exposures, then stack and process the images using PixInsight to get the crisp, detailed results I love.
As my mounts are getting quite old, I have a suggestion for SVBONY: I would be very interested in a reasonably priced computerized equatorial (EQ) mount or harmonic drive mount. A reliable, affordable mount from SVBONY would be a game-changer for users like me, complementing the brand’s existing gear and creating a more cohesive setup.
