Description
The Lagoon Nebula (Messier 8 or NGC 6523) is a massive, glowing star-forming region located approximately 4,000 to 5,200 light-years away in the constellation Sagittarius. Spanning roughly 110 by 50 light-years, it gets its name from the winding, dark dust lane that divides its luminous gas cloud.
