Description

Image of the Gabriela Mistral Nebula, a combination of an open cluster NGC 3324 and an emission nebula IC 2599. It is called as such because apparently the image resembles the Chilean poet, who received the Nobel Prize for literature in 1945. The nebula is about 7500 lightyear away in the constellation Carina, northwest of the larger Carina Nebula (NGC3372). The intense radiation from the massive blue-white stars has carved out a cavity in the surrounding gas and dust and cause the gas cloud to glow. Telescope: APO SV550 122MM Triplet SVBony Camera: SV405CC Filter: Optolong L-Ultimate Mount: Ioptron CEM60 Integration time: 98 frames x 300 seconds
