with SV28 spotting scope

Key Identifying Characteristics:

  • "Golden Slippers": The most iconic feature is the bright yellow feet contrasting sharply with its long black legs.

  • Bill and Face: It has a long, slender black bill and a patch of bright yellow skin (lores) between the bill and the eyes.

  • Plumage: Entirely snow-white feathers. During breeding season (as seen in the photo), it develops long, delicate "aigrettes" or plumes on its back, neck, and head, giving it a shaggy or wispy appearance.

  • Size & Shape: A medium-sized heron with a very slim, elegant neck and a light build.

  • Eyes: Bright yellow irises that match the facial skin and feet.
