Description
The main target of this imaging session was the famous Elephant's Trunk Nebula (IC 1396A), one of the most recognizable regions within the vast IC 1396 complex in the constellation Cepheus. IC 1396 is located approximately 2,400 light-years from Earth and is a massive region of ionized hydrogen spanning about 100 light-years. Within it lies the dense cloud of gas and dust known as IC 1396A, which earned the name Elephant's Trunk because of its distinctive shape. This giant pillar of cold gas and dust stretches for about 20 light-years and serves as a stellar nursery where new stars are being born. Despite the challenging imaging conditions, this remarkable object once again revealed its incredible beauty—glowing clouds of gas, dark dust structures, and active star-forming regions that make it one of the most fascinating deep-sky objects in the night sky.
