Description
I have completed a 4-panel narrowband mosaic using two dual-band filters: Ha/OIII: 50 / 50 / 50 / 42 × 300 s → 16 hours SII/OIII: 35 / 35 / 35 / 39 × 300 s → 12 hours Total captured narrowband data: 28 hours In Siril I used Extract Ha/OIII, processed each channel separately, applied background extraction, registration and stacking, and then built three complete mosaics: Ha, SII and OIII. These were combined in PixelMath to create the current color version. The post-processing is still quite rough and experimental, and I’m not even sure whether the current palette is closer to SHO or HSO. I would also like to add more narrowband data before calling the dataset complete. The biggest missing part is broadband RGB stars, which I still need to capture. Unfortunately, the forecast doesn’t look promising and I don’t expect another clear night before the end of the month, so it looks like I won’t be able to finish this in time for the #AugustPhotography challenge. After that comes the real final processing: proper channel balancing, starless processing, contrast/detail work, noise reduction and final star recomposition.
Background Introduction
Because of lack of clear nights, this project is still very much a work in progress — I would say I’m roughly 3/5 of the way to the final image. So definitely not finished yet — but the three-channel mosaic is finally working and the project is starting to show its potential.
