I bought this eyepiece and tried it out on my 6-inch f10 telescope. I observed the moon and the planet Jupiter. The eye relief and the width of the field of view were pretty good. The images seemed to be sharp and clear from the center to the edge of the field of view. The craters on the moon were wonderful. In a few minutes of very good seeing conditions, with the eyepiece focal length set close to 9 mm., I could observe much intricate and subtle shadings in Jupiter's cloud belts. Jupiter's four bright moons were neatly portrayed with no visible unwanted flare. This eyepiece seems to be optically really good.A good zoom eyepiece can be very useful in observing faint galaxies and comets. You can sometimes see a faint galaxy pop into visibility as you slowly zoom from low to high power.

I bought this while on introductory offer. I wanted a do it all lower power eyepiece, and one with fixed field of view at all focal lengths. Not the usual zoom eyepiece that is like looking through a straw at the low power end. This zoom eyepiece ticked the boxes. A constant 63deg field, really nice click stop for each focal length and good eye relief. Worth pointing out straight off the bat that this a large and heavy eyepiece. If you already own the superb SV215 3-8mm zoom, then you will be shocked by the size and weight disparity between the two. You will need a much larger space in your eyepiece case for the SV245. Onto how it performs. Mixed bag really. In the slower scopes (F10 SCT and F8.3 refractor) it performs really well. Sharp across the field. Comfortable view. Does what I hoped. In the faster scopes (F5 refractor and F4.5 newtonian) things are much less positive. Now the eyepiece is unable to cope with the steep cone these scopes produce, this results in only part of the field being sharp. In the f4.5 the outer 50% of the field is not sharp and the eyepiece is struggling. I just except its not for my faster scopes but great in the slower ones. Its great to just twist the eyepiece and work through the powers.
