Description
My geographical location meant that I had a clear view of the northern and southern quarters of the sky; however, I had to avoid trees, the roof of the house, and the mountains in the distance. Although I have a natural inclination towards observing nebulae, this first attempt at astrophotography, dictated by the limitations of my location, focused on the magnificent Dark Shark Nebula and Elephant Trunk Nebula . I had already tried taking photos of it using my small Vespera Pro camera, but with little success—the small size of its pixels made the sensor unsuitable for use in polluted skies, and even under normal conditions, the exposure times were simply too short to capture the beauty of such a celestial object. For this session, under a Bortle 3-4 sky condition, I opted for long exposure times of 240 seconds in order to maximize the signal captured by the camera. Due to the presence of clouds, it took six nights to achieve the desired results. In short, it was truly a joyous experience! Being under the starry sky, in the midst of nature, with only a wild animal—a magnificient fox—for company… some nights and some days, that fox would even “visit” me… What a rare and wonderful opportunity!
