SVBONY SV188P 99% Reflectivity 90-Degree Dielectric Mirror Diagonal

SVBONY SV188P 99% Reflectivity 90-Degree Dielectric Mirror Diagonal

Sturdy and sharp This Chinese brand of optical goods continues to impress me for value. So far, the telescope and accessories I have purchased through Svbony have delivered very good performance, allowing me to put my heavy 8" Newtonian telescope in storage in favor of a much lighter 102mm refractor that accepts 2" eyepieces. This star diagonal delivers sharp, contrasty views of both bright objects and starfields.

Good product, no complaints The SV188P seems perfectly good. As Svbony are Hong Kong–based, I’m comfortable the mirror is as described rather than the usual made-up marketing numbers. I contacted their support on a different matter and found them responsive and helpful. I don’t think the interior not being perfectly matte black is an issue, since there’s little to scatter, but it’s easily resolved anyway.

Lightweight diagonal. I used this to replace the stock star diagonal on my 8" SCT which had a scratch in the mirror. Lightweight and direct fit in the 1.25" visual back. I purchased the diagonal and 32mm eyepiece bundle and I am very pleased with the purchase.

SVBONY SV188P 99% Reflectivity 90-Degree Dielectric Mirror Diagonal

The least expensive 99% reflective diagonal available. This is the least expensive star diagonal on the market with a 99% reflective, dielectric coated, mirror that I’ve ever seen, and probably the cheapest one on the market. I ordered mine after reading several very positive reviews on amateur astronomy forums. While it is an excellent value, it does have one flaw: Those attractive, shiny, red anodized, aluminum side plates are also shiny on the inside of the diagonal, and that can result in internal reflections that reduce contrast. That can be fixed by very carefully disassembling the diagonal and coating the inside of the plates with flat black paint. This will of course nullify any warranty from the manufacturer and make it impossible to return to Svbony, so consider that before you make the decision.

Fantastic value Fantastic clarity and great value. No comparison to the lower quality standard diagonals that come with the telescopes. I got it for the SVBONY SV593 70 mm ED refractor OTA. The telescope is awesome too. Not sure what the other guy Mr. B states, inside of mine is plated or painted black and it’s not red.
