SV105 Planetary Camera IMX307 for Beginners Astrophotography

SV105

Does a darn good job!!! This camera is really nice, feels like good quality build, the moon picture was taken with it and using the software to stack 200 video frames from a 3 second video to get that image, the software does all the necessary crops so they all align, it's really cool!!

Download Sharpcap before using So I was disappointed with the micro sized directions that came with the camera. Make sure you download sharpcap by going to their site. It doesn't pop-up after installing. Directions were useless and need a magnifying glass to read. Download sharpcap software and install the camera and you're good. I haven't had a clear night so I used the camera during the day to lineup the star finder. It was crystal clear. I recommend doing a dry run during the day and explore the software before attempting any photos at night. I'm a beginner and I might add some better photos. This camera is definitely worth it.

Great Introductory camera for the price! I picked up one of these introductory astronomy cameras from SVBONY and it is an amazing entry level digital astronomy camera, If you love astronomy and looking to get into astro-imaging then this is a good starter camera. It was easy to setup and I was capturing images in no time at all. This camera is for lunar and planetary imaging only. The moon, the sun and planets are the easiest objects to capture in the night sky making this camera great for beginners. I consider myself an intermediate level astronomer and I still love using this camera over my DSLR; especially when I am looking to do basic photographing of the planets or the moon. When shooting video you get a nice large 1920X1080 (2mp) which is the standard for even my DSLR.This camera is so light that I do not have to worry about balancing issues as I would with my DSLR making it perfect. The construction quality and casing is pretty solid and manufactured very well. The program SharpCap you use with this camera is a very basic and simple program to capture your data. It doesn't get an easier then it does already. I am happy with my sv105 and glad I got one. A little tip for you beginners. If you are shooting the moon; keep your gain lower and brightness down a little bit since the moon is closer and brighter. When shooting the planets; I would increase the gain and brightness since they are further away. :) When taking pictures of the sun; make sure your telescope has the solar safety film needed. I also sometimes use my Celestron Luminous 2.5x Barlow lens or Zhumell 2x Barlow lens when imaging the planets. Over all I am very pleased at what this camera can do and the images it can produce. Below are some of my images taken with this camera. I give it five stars because so far; everything I have picked up from SVBONY has been great. I have not been disappointed yet by their affordable and amazing products.

Super easy to use!!Super easy to use!! I own a Celestron Starsense 130 and I been playing for some time, very nice telescope and easy to use but it gets anowing that everyone in the family have different Eyewear and we need to adjust the scope to every person eyes. I purchased the SVBONY camera and in 15 minutes I was streaming the scope view on my laptop to everyone enjoyment on the house. Thing to know: You need a dedicated program for connecting the camera to the laptop, i used the one from SVBONY ( very basic) but there are many outthere. The picture on the laptop is very good quality but you need to adjust the frames and exposure depend what you want to see. I find that using a lunar or light-pollution lents screwed on the camera help to have a clear and sharper picture. The programs on the computer saves the videos on .SAR files ( very new to me) and you need a .SAR files reader program on the computer to see the videos back. I'm very happy with this camera for this low price.

Works well with Samsung Galaxy Phone I am not attempting astrophotography with this device. I wanted an inexpensive way to connect my Celestron NexStar 8SE to my phone screen so that my grandkids can look through the scope. They find the eyepiece too hard. I have the NexStar 10MP camera for astrophotography , but there are no Android phone drivers/apps for UVC cameras so it only will connect to a Windows laptop - which is fine but not what I wanted for casual viewing with the kiddos. I found it very difficult to get any clear advice on alternatives (...and got told I didn't want to do this anyway. Which was weird!). I took a small chance on this $60 camera and is does exactly what I wanted. I connected it directly to the phone with an OTG connector using a simple 'Endoscope App' from the PlayStore and it worked first time with no problems. Focus is via the telescope and it renders very well given that it is only 2MP. I use OTG connections on my phone for other devices so I had the permissions set - ymmv. I don't know how quickly it would drain the phone without external power. SVBONY imply that there is a significant power draw with this device (who knows) as they provide a tandem cable to connect to an external USB power source at the same time. I couldn't get that to work. Instead I connected my phone to an external power pack (so it would charge) at the same time, using this tandem OTG connector . This works fine for me, and I already had both items. All in all this works very well within its limitations. It is easy to use with minimal setup and is excellent value for money

Great Value This digital capture device really is a great value. I can't believe for only about sixty bucks I can capture such high-quality snaps of North Hollywood (where I live) from my highrise office suite in Glendale, CA (about 10 miles away). I'm only using a cheap $80 telescope I bought about 10 years ago, which for the past 8 years had been sitting around collecting dust in a closet. I recently dusted it off and brought it to my office and found this capture device and it was an awesome pairing. Now I want to get a better telescope.

Yep, it's a telescope camera. Does what it says on the tin. For the cost, an excellent camera. The cooling can be a bit TOO good on cold nights, one time it malfunctioned but it was fine when I brought it inside to warm it up. It is, for sure, An Camera. Images captured with a Hadley 5" reflector.

Great telescope camera for the price. This is the lowest end camera I could find and I really got it to try out a telescope camera attachment before investing in a higher end camera. I was honestly very impressed. There's a software disc that comes with it that was easy to install and start capturing. The easiest thing to do is bring your laptop out with you and connect it to the camera once the telescope is aligned to the planet you want to capture. This camera replaces the telescope eyepiece. Then once the video is recorded I used SharpCap free software to create a composite image from the video you capture with the software that comes with the camera. The attached picture is my best so far. Honestly I was impressed and it's a great camera for the price.

Great budget camera for learning astrophotography I took these photos using Sharpcap and processing the avi files in Registax. Images captured with a Celestron StarSense Explorer AZ 130DX. For a manual, non-motorized, alt-az mount I think this turned out terrific. For the price, this is really hard to beat.

Great quality with computer software skills I love this camera. I've had it for about a month and I'm still finding ways to improve the images through software editing and stacking images. The image i took with my 70mm gskyer is processed through an astrophotography software which is possible to do through this great camera. I am ready to upgrade my scope and keep pushing this camera to the max.

Excellent performance for the money I bought this camera just to try it out. Quite frankly it amazed me. For $61 you can attach one of these to your telescope and take good pictures of the Moon and planets. My setup is a Vixen ED80sf refractor on a GoTo and tracking mount. Using the supplied USB cable connected to my PC I captured 500 frames in SharpCap (free) for the Moon and for the planets I took 2,000 frames. I saved the frames to a .SER file and then stacked them in Autostakkert (also free). Final image enhancement was done with Gimp 2.10 (again, it's free). I used a 2X Barlow lens for the planet captures and removed this for the Moon capture. The quality of these images surprisingly good considering the price of this camera. Close examination of the Jupiter image reveals a Moon and its shadow as it transits the planet. Additionally there is sufficient resolution to detect a swirl in the cloud banding. SVBONY have really come up with a winner here for the price. The camera is color (RGB) so you do not need to mess with filters or multiple exposures. You just point it and capture. As a first astro-camera or a for a beginner, this camera is a good buy in my opinion. I shall be taking it to my Astronomy Club's Outreach events to show people live images on my phone using the USB port, an OTG cable and "USB Camera" for Android. Are there any downsides? For 61 bucks, not really provided you stick to imaging the Moon, planets. I have not tried this but the brighter Messier objects such as The Orion Nebula, M42 may also be possible. SVBONY state that this is intended as a planetary camera although they refer to it as an electronic eyepiece. I have the feeling that the SV105 might also find a home as a guiding camera for more advanced astronomy rigs. Again, I have not tried this. I would definitely recommend this camera for someone starting out in astro-photography.
