Better Than Expected
I originally bought the 102ED refractor to use at public outreach astronomy events so that I wouldn't have to expose my expensive imaging 'scopes to being touched by hundreds of people who don't know how to handle a telescope. But I was sufficiently impressed with the views through this 'scope that I decided to try it as an imaging 'scope, and purchased the reducer/flattener separately.
It took some time to get both the main and guide cameras to reach focus (more on that later), but I finally came up with a combination of spacers that worked, although it's slightly longer than the recommended 55mm flange to sensor spacing. I still haven't captured a real target because the Moon is now nearly full, but some short exposures (4 seconds) with a luminance filter and monochrome camera (APS-C sensor size) revealed uniformly round, tight stars across the field, and quite acceptable sharpness. Sharpness is likely limited by chromatic aberration when using a luminance filter (or OSC camera), but the same is true of one of my much more expensive imaging 'scopes, which is a triplet.
My issue with this system for imaging is that at focus the focuser is almost all the way in, leaving just a few millimeters to spare. This situation is not helped by the fact that the threads on the back of the reducer/flattener are so long that I had to add spacing between the reducer/flattener and OAG to avoid running into the pick-off prism.
Superb price/performance ratio
I owned a 102/1000 mm F10 Bresser achromat for some time, now I purchased the Svbony 102mm ED FPL51 and its significaltly better with a lot less chromatic aberrations. I like this refractor a lot, especially because it's sold for an excellent price
Best price with high quality
I have the 102 and the 70 and I love them! Glad at got them before the tariff war being in the states!
Worth a look as a first scope.
I have the the 80mm version of this scope. I think for the price it's very good. It's not as good as a triplet but the difference is not big, mainly slight halos on bright stars. It's well built and nice to use. I have the reducer for it as well. It's my go to scope and I really like it.
this was the best rig I could afford
This is the exact telescope I use with an ASI2600MC. With a 0.8X FF/FR and a Pegasus Focus Cube, this was the best rig I could afford.
This sv503 did really surprise me
I purchased the 503 102ed during the Black Friday sale with competitive price. Thanks svbony. I can proceed my hobby.
Nice gear I've own
I got one sv503 telescope a few months ago. Pretty happy with it.
a better scope for less than half the price............
i used to use 8inch Schmidt-Cassegrain to astrophotograph nebulas with a friend , then i decided to get my own telescope and i ordered the sv502 102mm with the reducer to start my astrophotography journey , i was worried from the chromatic operations since it is a doublet but here is my experience with it :
- the stars are nice and round on the corners of the image
- there is no blue stars when using dual narrow band filter or even multi band filters using a color camera
- the images that produces is very sharp which is spuriously sharper then the 8inch Schmidt-Cassegrain while this scope cost less then half the price of the 8inch
- comes with dew sheild bult-in which is huge plus.
- i was able to capture the horsehead nebula, the rosette nebula and andromeda in great details
in conclusion i believe i made the right choice going with this scope and i am very happy with the images i get with it
Product Quality
Perfect product.
Happy with my purchase
SVBony503 102ed
Great telescope with all required astrophotography accessories for cheap price.
With field flattener you barely see blue halo around stars for this doublet telescope.

Features
- 1. The appearance of the telescope is baked with high-end fine-grained paint, with exquisite appearance and delicate feel
- 2. The objective lens features an S-FPL51 extra-low dispersion glass ED element, which eliminates chromatic aberration. This results in the best color correction for an ED doublet lens
- 3. The lens adopts optical processing and low polishing technology, which is carefully carved
- 4. The deceleration ratio of the two-speed 2'' toothed focusing seat is 1:10, which makes it easy to achieve accurate focus
