Very impressed!
Very good image quality, even at highest magnification. The image doesn't appear to soften towards the edges of the eyepiece like many scopes. Chromatic aberration is well-controlled. The colors seem natural. The build quality seems adequate for the price. The soft case, while probably the best-designed I've seen, still isn't my thing so it went back in box. Included image was digiscoped with my phone at 60X. I am a believer in SBVONY...exceptional quality at bargain price. I recently started buying some of their eyepieces and diagonals for my 2 telescopes and my experience convinced me to buy this spotting scope.
Stacked up well
I put this up against a 20 year old Smith & Wesson, a Celestron and a Gosky (of same general specs) .
Obviously, it was better than the S&W, much lighter, as they all were. The SvBony was better than both the Gosky and Celestron - same target, same time, side by side. It was a clearer, crisper edge to edge view at 20. At 60 it was also better than the other two for clarity. I even put the outside into focus and see if the center is in focus and the Bony was best. Sort of a reverse focus test of sorts. I also REALLY like the ability to put my telescope eye pieces into this, although, compared to the zoom that it came with, the higher mags are about the same, the 32mm will give me a wider field of view, which is nice for long distance. I'm happy with the SvBony.
Good image quality
After just a few days using this scope I'm incredibly impressed with the image quality. Immediately I was able to see very sharp details--during the day a fine wired electric fence being eyed by a coyote from 1/2 mile away, and then the rings of Saturn and the moons of Jupiter by night. No distracting chromatic aberrations, the ED glass is definitely doing it's job. Focusing is easy, and the zoom control works well--once I figured out how to use it...
The scope arrives in a well protected box with the scope body and the eyepiece separately packaged. The single sheet entitled "Instructions of SVBONY Spotting Scope" has warnings of what not to do ("Don't look at the sun..."), examples of what it can be used for ("Animals observing...") 2 sets of very generic drawings showing "Product structure" and "Diopter adjustment." I imagine the drawings apply to every spotting scope in Svbony's line, and don't show any specific feature applicable to the SV406P. That's it.
Enjoy this scope, but be forewarned you're on your own with learning how to use it.
Sharp image, easy focus
Excellent quality for the Price. Image holds sharp over most of the field and minimal refocus needed with zoom change.
Focus knob works smoothly and easy even with gloves on for cold day.
Case in is wonderful, well designed good fit and function for everything except rotation of ocular to other than vertical position. I just leave the case on for storage and use.
Really don't think you can touch the bang for the buck without spending 5x or more. Also my regular telescope ocular work great as a bonus.
Sharp image, well worth the price.
As described. Very sharp corner to corner with the extreme corners having a slight jelly bean on stars (not the intended use but an acid test for any scope). Used on the super moon and just the slightest bit of false color at high magnification. Daytime use is a joy. Didn't notice any false color and images were very sharp matching much more expensive scopes like the Vanguard I used to have. Even at the highest magnification very useable but you better have a good tripod. I married it to a carbon fiber fiber with a Manfrotto fluid head with good results. Focus knobs are smooth as silk and accurate. Zoom eyepiece was better than expected and held pretty good focus through the zoom with only some fine focus needed to clean it up. Wish it came with a hard case but it did have a weather sleeve that is well padded.
No, it's not the finest Nikon, Canon, or Swarovski but it's not over 2k either. It is well worth the money I paid and really much more.
